Case Study #1 - Flexible Staffing
As a large-scale SDLC project develops, the hope is to balance cost with creating an inflow of intellectual capital to meet short and long term technology resource requirements. Some resources might flow in and add value in the short term; others might need to be retained for the long term.

Balancing the need for contract resources with the need for contract to hire and/or full time employees can make the difference between retaining the intellectual capital after the project milestones are met or being in perpetual contract mode as the resources rotate in and out.

A large local financial institution utilized Tail Wind's three varieties of staffing - Contract, Contract to Hire, and Permanent Placement - to augment a very complex enterprise-level application development project with challenging time and budget constraints.

Consider for a moment the usual consulting price tag from high-cost consulting firms for such talent as Enterprise Data Warehouse Architects, Sr. Java J2EE Developers, Oracle DBAs and PL/SQL Developers in addition to legacy skill sets in HP-UX. Combine this with the difficulties in searching for and qualifying these types internally.

By planning with Tail Wind, our client was able to bring these resources in at rates closer to what might be expected to pay an employee of similar talent (with reasonable margins) while retaining the flexibility to hire the resources who met their long-term staffing needs.

Tail Wind provided ten hand-picked resource selections. Of the resources supplied, three were hired and a fourth is scheduled to convert within the next four months. The remaining resources were intended originally for contract only. In addition to easy placement, the client received a reduced rate for placement fees by making Tail Wind a strategic part of their planning process and giving us an opportunity on multiple openings.

If you're considering engaging Tail Wind, please ask us for more details on this client as a personal testament to our ability to deliver the right talent in the right way at the right time.

An example of cost savings and intellectual capital retention.
